Feeling down, stressed out, or anxious can be common, especially in our fast-paced society. It’s normal to feel this way once in a while, but if you’re feeling this way regularly, then it may be time to seek help. Depression is an illness that can negatively impact your daily life, relationships, and work performance if left untreated. At Jonas Hill Hospital, we use a range of treatments to help individuals with depression manage their symptoms and start feeling better.

Treatments for Depression

Psychotherapy

Uncovering and transforming unhealthy emotions, thoughts, and behaviors is at the heart of psychotherapy (talk therapy). Your therapist will work with you to determine which type of psychotherapy—with cognitive behavioral therapy being the most popular—will best suit your needs. It’s possible that brief sessions are all that it’ll take for you to reach your desired goals, or alternatively you may benefit from longer periods of treatment.

Alternative Therapy

Non-traditional paths to therapy include pet therapy, and music therapy. Pet therapy consists of animal-assisted activities including petting and playing with a pet that can help reduce stress, provide comfort, and improve overall mood. Music therapy involves the use of music to address physical, mental, social and emotional needs in order to promote healing.

Medication

Prescription antidepressants can help restore your brain chemistry. You might have to experiment at first since there are a variety of different types of medications available; however, it is worth the effort in order to discover one that works best for you.
